Belong’s Chester care village nears completion

The £21m dementia care complex is being built by Seddon Construction, which took over the contract last year after Pochin went into administration.

Seddon has now topped out the development on Chester’s City Road and says it is on target to complete in time for the care home to open in early 2022, operated by specialist care provider Belong.

The new complex, known as Belong Chester, will provide accommodation and specialist dementia and nursing support for more than 100 people, under the plans.

There will be 24-hour support across six extended family-sized households, and the village also includes 23 independent living apartments available to buy or rent. Meanwhile, the main village hub building has a range of facilities including a bistro, hair salon, exercise studio and function rooms.

The project has been designed by Altrincham-based Pozzoni Architecture and is located in the city centre, adjacent to its historic canal.

Belong’s deputy chief executive Tracy Paine said: “We know the village’s opening is eagerly anticipated and we look forward to welcoming the community early next year and being able to support local older people, including those living with dementia, and their families.”

John Shannon, divisional director at Seddon, added: “It’s great to see the scheme progressing. The next stage [of construction work] will see the village come to life even further and become the highly-anticipated vibrant space the people of Chester have been waiting for.”
