Beechlane presses on with 20-storey Bolton tower
The developer is aiming to start work on the 20-storey apartment block and a linked 30,000 sq ft office after submitting plans for the project to Bolton Council.
Dubbed Trinity Gateway, the project includes 144 apartments in the 20-storey block along with offices and a 494-space multi-storey car park, and is to be built on a 1.6-acre plot on the corner of Bradshawgate and Trinity Street in Bolton town centre.
According to the developer, a contractor, office occupiers, and an operator for the multi-storey car park are all already in talks to help bring the scheme forward; Place North West reported last month that Bolton-based Seddon is in discussions to build the project.
Two public consultation events were held earlier this month and following these, a planning application has been put forward to the council. JMArchitects designed the scheme and P4 Planning advised on the application.
Beechlane Investments said it was hoping to secure planning permission before the end of the year, which will allow construction to get under way in 2020.
The tower was previously announced under developer Midia’s name in February this year. According to Companies House, Alex Colbeck of Midia is listed as a director at Beechlane Investments, along with Harry Dhaliwal, who is also a director of fellow developer Step Places. Louise Turner is also listed as a director; both Colbeck and Turner are also listed as holding “significant control” over the company.
Alec Colbeck, development director at Beechlane Investments, said: “We would like to thank all of the people who came along to visit the recent public consultation events to share their views on our plans. We received an overwhelmingly positive response from the public and in making this application we are signalling our commitment to both the project and the town.
“These are tremendously exciting times for Bolton and we are very pleased to be playing a part in shaping its new, brighter future.”
Gillian Worden, associate at P4 Planning said: “This is an exciting time for Bolton. Plans for Trinity Gateway, which is in a prominent, town centre location, are in line with the wider aspirations for the town and if approved will completely transform this brownfield site. It is a huge investment into the local economy, will create new homes and act as a catalyst for further regeneration in the town.
“We are looking forward to a positive outcome so that the scheme can come forward as soon as possible.”
I attended the consultation, as always more of a tick box exercise than taking any comments on board. I personally still think its a bland scheme particularly the public realm, lacks inspiration and identity… but i suppose its better than what is there now.

This is not a gateway development – looks very bland, a could be anywhere scheme…. If Bolton want to follow Manchester looking to the sky this needs to set a better benchmark

I’ve seen gates that offer more of an appealing gateway development.
