Beech reveals latest Manchester resi scheme

Beech Holdings has announced plans to convert Mindel House and the neighbouring 11 Bloom Street, both empty brick Victorian warehouses, into 78 carbon neutral apartments with a 4,500 sq ft roof garden.

The residential scheme, known as Mindel + Bloom, would have a cobbled alleyway between the two buildings, and the roof of Mindel House used as the residents’ park. A planning application has been submitted, and includes proposals for a large mural of Tony Wilson on one side of Mindel House.

Beech acquired Mindel House from receivers in October 2014, and 11 Bloom Street in May 2016 from the Flood family.

Stephen Beech, the owner of Beech Holdings, said: “We are marrying Mindel House and 11 Bloom Street together. Mindel House is an old tired office block which has been largely empty for around 10 years and is in urgent need of repair because it is decaying at an incredible rate. Next door is 11 Bloom Street, which used to house a number of nightclubs, and was badly damaged when the roof caught fire around 10 years ago.

“The park will create a community where neighbours will become friends. A large supply of high design external power sockets strategically placed to maximise ease of use will be provided, enabling residents to work and socialise.”

The 78 apartments, a combination of one- and two-bedrooms, will have underfloor heating, Bosch appliances, fitted bedroom furniture, bespoke kitchens plus furniture designed by Van Gaal.

The scheme includes heat recovery systems, air source heat pumps and a communal heating system to aid cheap running costs for tenants.
