BCEGI tops out £45m Airport City hotels
A 280-bedroom Holiday Inn and 262-bedroom Ibis Budget are targeted to complete in 2022 after the construction and engineering group reached the highest point on both projects.
The schemes form part of the £250m hotel district within the £1bn Airport City masterplan that is being delivered by Airport City Limited Partnership, a joint venture between Beijing Construction Engineering Group International, Manchester Airports Group and the Greater Manchester Pension Fund.
In total, the hotel district is to deliver 2,400 hotel rooms across nine properties within the wider 5m sq ft masterplan.
The contractor started building the Ibis and Holiday Inn hotels in January 2020 having been awarded a £45m construction contract.

Plans for a third hotel, a 412-bedroom hotel off Chicago Avenue, to be operated by French hospitality group Accor under its Tribe brand, were approved by Manchester City Council last April.
Last summer, a pedestrian and cycle bridge over the M56 spur airport approach road in Manchester was installed at Airport City.
Designed by 5Plus Architects, the bridge aims to improve connectivity and encourage active travel around the airport.
As well as hotels, the Airport City masterplan aims to deliver offices, advanced manufacturing, logistics facilities, and ancillary retail space.
Elsewhere within the masterplan zone, contractor Winvic is on site with the first phase of The Hut Group’s £150m logistics park, Icon, developed by Stoford and TPD Real Estate, after breaking ground on the scheme in 2019.
The park includes 168,000 sq ft of logistics space, together with 104,000 sq ft of offices over four floors. The scheme is expected to house 2,000 staff when it completes.
