Barton leaves Renew for Encams

Encams, the Wigan-based national organisation in charge of the Keep Britain Tidy and Blue Flag campaigns, has appointed Phil Barton as its new chief executive.

Barton joins Encams from his post as director of Renew Northwest, the Government’s regional centre for excellence for sustainable communities.

Renew, funded mainly by the North West Development Agency, was formed in 2004 and Barton was its first director.

At Encams, he will head an organisation of 150 staff and work with organisations from local authorities to central Government on a range of initiatives.

Barton has previously had posts at Defra, Groundwork, the Mersey Basin Campaign and the Co-operative Bank.

Renew and the NWDA will be advertising shortly for a new director to replacement Barton in the New Year.
