Barratt and Homes England pilot in for planning

A reserved matters application has been submitted for a 180-home scheme at Pewterspear Green Road in South Warrington, one of seven projects nationally being piloted under the Government’s Accelerated Construction model.

Homes England secured outline planning consent for the 18-acre site in Stretton in September 2017 and, following a procurement competition, has now selected Barratt Homes to act as delivery partner.

The Accelerated Construction model is an approach intended to share risk, and is being trialled in a bid to increase the pace of housing delivery.

Duncan Inglis, Homes England’s head of accelerated delivery for the region, said: ‘We have had huge amount of interest in this site and are delighted to be working with Barratt, who have demonstrated a real commitment to delivering the quality and pace of development set out in our brief.

“Barratt has worked hard to meet the challenges we set for this project and have come forward with an ambitious programme which will deliver the high standard of homes needed for this prestigious location.”

Neil Goodwin, managing director of Barratt Manchester, said: “South Warrington is one of the region’s most attractive development locations.

“We have worked closely with Homes England to streamline the whole development process to ensure the supply of new homes can be accelerated whilst maintaining the highest quality standards demanded by our customers.”

Subject to the outcome of reserved matters, Barratt are aiming to start on site by the end of the summer. The development, which will include a range of affordable house types, is forecast to be fully completed within 30 months.
