Barnfield/Pendle begin Nelson art enterprise centre

Work has started on a 51,000 sq ft arts and business centre by Pendle Enterprise and Regeneration, a joint venture between Barnfield Construction and Pendle council, in Nelson, Lancashire.

Nelson's Arts, Culture and Enterprise Centre will cost £5m to build and is due to open in summer 2009.

On the ground floor there will be a reception area, recording studio, art project room, cafe/bar leading out on to a court yard, and a 200-seat performance arena for cinema/theatre and live music.

The first floor will accommodate two function rooms capable of seating 300 people, meeting rooms and art display space.

Individual business units will be based on the third and fourth floors.

Funding for the centre has come from Pendle's Local Strategic Partnership and the North West Development Agency, which contributed towards the cost of buying the land.
