Barncroft extra care scheme completes
Anwyl Partnerships, part of North Wales-based housebuilder Anwyl Group, has completed a £3.4m extra care scheme in Pensby, Wirral, and handed it over to operator Magenda Living.
The development, known as Barncroft, comprises 21 apartments with a range a internal and external communal spaces and a vegetable and shrubbery garden for residents.
The scheme is intended to provide support to those suffering from dementia, and improve their quality of life, and also tackle a shortage of accommodation for those aged over 55 in the borough.
Tom Anwyl, managing director at Anwyl Partnerships, said: “We’ve remained committed to progressing this project during the lockdown period to reach completion, as we recognise the urgent need for this type of housing.
“This is a fantastic scheme, marking our first on the Wirral and we look forward to supporting the council’s plans by developing further projects of this nature here in the future. “
Paul Anson, executive director of growth at Magenta Living, added: “[Anwyl] has delivered a great scheme that will provide much-needed homes for people over 55 in Wirral and adds a second extra care scheme to Magenta Living’s development portfolio.
“It is really important that we address the housing needs of an increasingly ageing population and offer independent living schemes.”
Barncroft is the first project Anwyl has delivered in partnership with Wirral-based Magenta Living, a not-for-profit housing provider that owns and manages around 13,000 properties in the region.
Magenta was in advanced talks to buy a site in Liscard, Wirral, from Anwyl Partnerships in March, to deliver a 53-unit extra care scheme.
However, two months later, proposals for the scheme to be located at 52-54 Greenheys Road, in a mainly residential area southeast of the Victoria Central Hospital in Wallasey, were rejected by Wirral Council against officers’ recommendations.
The council cited the project’s proposed scale and massing and a potential increase in traffic volume to the local area, as the main reasons for rejecting the project.
