Aviva gets approval for 230,000 sq ft Eccles industrial

After a slight delay, the investor has been given the green light to redevelop a 13-acre site off Lankro Way into a modern last-mile logistics complex.

Salford City Council had been due to approve Aviva’s scheme last October, but its planning committee deferred the decision the 230,000 sq ft application.

Now, the authority has granted the developer consent for the demolition of existing ageing stock and the construction of seven units ranging from 10,500 sq ft to 91,000 sq ft.

Located on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal, Aviva Investors’ site is occupied in part by Agelco, a shipping container refurbishment and modular unit hire firm.

Agelco’s lease expires this year, according to planning documents.

It is anticipated that the proposed development will operate as a last-mile logistics hub, according to a planning statement by consultancy Turley.

SMR Architects, transport consultancy Vectos, Aspect Landscape Planning are also advising Aviva on the proposals.
