Arts Council unveils latest funding winners

Five projects in the region have been awarded Arts Council England funding to take forward small capital projects, including improvements to theatres, music venues and an artist’s residence at the Turner Prize-winning Granby Four Streets in Liverpool.

The North West capital projects to get the green light were:

• More Music, Morecambe, £169,711 to consolidate previous investment in its building, the Hothouse. Work to include urgent repairs, refurbishment and installing new digital equipment
• Granby Four Streets Community Land Trust in collaboration with art collective Assemble and Bluecoat Arts Centre, Liverpool, £249,619 to provide a network of community assets including Winter Garden & Common House, an indoor garden and artists’ live-work space inside two terraced houses
• Theatre by the Lake, Cumbria Theatre Trust, Keswick, £100,000 to acquire an industrial unit for storage of scenery, replace gas boilers with more energy-efficient condensing models and replace tungsten stage lighting with LED
• Walk the Plank, Salford, £499,999 to merge two sites onto a single refurbished site in Cobden Street in 2017
• Unity Theatre Company, Hope Place, Liverpool, £435,000 towards opening out foyers, creating a new entrance and enabling environmental, access and technical improvements. Designed by K2 Architects

There was £10.8m awarded in total by the Arts Council England.
