Armitage completes £1.4m Centrepoint revamp

A two-storey mid-terrace office building off Oldham Street in Manchester has received a full refurbishment.

Works to the building were carried out by Armitage and included strip out works, asbestos removal, replacement roof coverings, windows and floor coverings and redecoration throughout.

The UK’s leading youth homeless charity, Centrepoint, will be moving back into the 8,500 sq ft space in the coming months. The charity had to temporarily relocate to North Parade in March 2020, to allow the refurbishment to go ahead.

The building will have a variety of uses, including main office space that will allow volunteers to provide a range of services to those in need of support, and a storage unit for donations. Young people can also make use of different areas aimed at equipping them with necessary skills needed when they move into their own accommodation. These include laundry, IT and learning facilities.

Kitchen, dining and one-to-one meeting areas are also available.

Aew Architects designed the new space. Arcus Consulting is the project manager.

Principal designer roles and the M&E design services were provided throughout the construction works by Ridge & Partners.

Saunders & Taylor and Performance Electrical were also part of the project team.

The refurbishment will ensure volunteers can provide thousands of homeless young people across Greater Manchester with a safe, welcoming and inspirational environment in which to recover and grow, helping them to leave homelessness behind for good.
