Approval for Chapel Street apartments

Bellward Properties has secured planning permission from Salford City Council for the conversion of 230 Chapel Street to residential use.

The proposals total six apartments, whilst the 635 sq ft ground floor will be for commercial use.

The apartments will be a mix of one- to two-bedrooms with the size ranging from 430 sq ft to 800 sq ft. The development will also involve a two-storey roof extension to accommodate the flats.

Euan Kellie Property Solutions is the planning advisor, and the project was designed by Tim Groom Architects.

The site has been vacant for over a decade and is located within the Adelphi and Bexley Square Conservation Area, next to the grade two-listed Cathedral of St John.

In its response to a consultation on the scheme, Historic England said: “The proposal to bring 230 Chapel Street into a sustainable use is welcomed as a key part of its long term maintenance and conservation, and we note the consideration given to conserving its architectural features and quality evident in the proposal.”

Fantastic historic conversion and extension. Proof of the regeneration strategy at Chapel Street. Manage traffic, put public realm in and the development will follow!

@Scott. Why bother posting such? This is Salford by the way and Greater Manchester has come on over the years….

The buildings that remain at that end of Chapel Street around Bexley Sq are all quite attractive, hopefully this will kick start their redevelopment.
