Anwyl to bring forward 250 homes in Handforth

The Deeside-based housebuilder has agreed a deal with Himor to purchase a 21-acre site off Meriton Road in Handforth with outline planning permission for 250 homes.

Himor secured planning consent for the site, which stretches between Clay Lane and Sagars Road, in October last year, despite the proposals attracting 400 objectors from local residents. At the time, Cheshire East’s planning committee backed the development on agricultural land by eight votes to four.

Under the planning permission, 30% of the homes are required to be affordable.

Acting on behalf of a private landowner, Himor has agreed the sale to Anwyl Homes for an undisclosed sum. Himor was advised by Gateley and JLL; Anwyl was advised by Shoosmiths; and Mills & Reeve and Arcadian Estates represented the landowner.

Himor Land’s Peter Ainscough said: “This transaction represents a significant area of land being unlocked for development, which will deliver much-needed housing in Cheshire East, and benefits to the local economy”.

Phil Dolan of Anwyl Homes said: “We have been building homes across North Wales and the North West of England for upwards of 80 years, creating developments that communities can be proud of. We are delighted to have worked with Himor and acquired the land at Meriton Road and now look forward to continuing this work with Cheshire East Council and the local community of Handforth to deliver these much-needed new homes.”

What are the East Cheshire planners thinking “get there quotas up” this is another diabolical decision to destroy what’s left of this areas green environment. Cant this be developed on redundant brownfield sites in Wythenshawe, OH no ! the developer wont make any money see their point!
Oh by the way Macclesfield Planning boarders on this site, they too have grown horns forget about our kids, White Nancy beauty spot will be the only area left to build on soon.
“Green belt” come on when its gone its gone. Any falling on deaf ears comes to mind!!

CBA, blame central government – it’s their imposed target. And blame private developers and landowners who are only interested in developing the most profitable areas.

As we are seeing with Brexit, it’s central government who simultaneously have their foot on the throat of local communities yet are too self absorbed and dysfunctional to govern in the interests of the different communities up and down the land.

Much needed homes my backside. Just an easy to build on Greenfield site. It’s nothing to do with local communities and everything to do about maximising developer profits. No doubt the term “affordable” will mean some of the houses down specced and undersized to be priced at £325k instead of £400k. True starter homes for the locals…
