Alliance/Tesco plan Accrington store

Tesco and Manchester-based developer, Property Alliance Group, have submitted a joint planning application for a food store in Accrington, Lancashire.

Alliance said the £32m project in Eagle Street would be the biggest single investment in Accrington in the last five years.

The proposal includes an 88,000 sq ft food store on a six-and-a-half-acre site in the town centre.

The site contains two former offices vacated by the council and a skills agency some years ago; both would be demolished if the proposed store is built.

Tesco and Property Alliance Group forecast that the project would create approximately 450 new jobs.

No date has been fixed for the planning authority to hear the application.

Tushingham Moore is representing Tesco. Cheetham & Mortimer is acting for Property Alliance Group.
