Aldi to build bigger at Deepdale Shopping Park
The discount supermarket chain has won approval to knock down its existing store at the retail park off Blackpool Road in Preston, to make way for a larger, more modern shop.
Aldi wants to build an updated store and increase the floorplate to 20,000 sq ft from 15,000 sq ft.
“The current foodstore was built in accordance with a previous format model for Aldi and no longer meets the company’s requirements,” the planning statement from consultant Avison Young said.
The scheme will also include an additional six car parking spaces, bringing the total to 105, and an electrical vehicle charging point.
The store has been expanded twice since it was built in the 1990s, when Aldi entered the UK market.
The company now operates more than 800 stores across the UK and has plans to open a further 76 across the North West by 2025.
The Harris Partnership is the architect for the project.
