Aldi puts in for Heaton Chapel extension

The retailer wants to increase the size of its Weybrook Road store, which has been in operation for 15 years.

Aldi has submitted a planning application to Stockport Council requesting permission to add a single storey extension to the Heaton Chapel supermarket, loctaed across the road from the McVities factory.

If approved, the scheme would see the size of the sales area increase by around 5,000 sq ft from 10,600 sq ft to almost 15,000 sq ft.

The scheme would also result in the addition of 20 parking spaces taking the total number to 101.

The aim of the project is to “accommodate existing parking demand, improve the operational efficiency of the store and increase the retail provision for the local community and meet consumer demands”, according to a planning statement prepared by Avison Young.

The Harris Partnership is leading on design.

Great idea, upstairs isn’t taking any more footprint room so why not?

Dave – this is a ground floor extension, not one above the existing building.
