AG appoints chief executive and managing director

Jonathan Shaw will focus on the built environment consultancy’s long-term strategy, while Andrew Whittle is charged with the day-to-day operations.

Shaw and Whittle founded AG Built Environment Consultancy more than 15 years ago. Prior to the promotions, Shaw had been managing director and Whittle director.

The leadership restructure comes as AG increases its staff headcount to 50. At the same time, the firm has expanded its services to provide support for sustainability and energy performance. The company, which already had bases in Preston and Manchester, also opened an office in Liverpool earlier this month.

Shaw said described how this growth had led him to reconsider his role at the company.

“After 15 happy years developing the business, and in my role as MD at the firm, I began to notice a shift in what was required from that role,” Shaw said. “The vision and strategies for the business were moving us along, but far more attention was needed on the day-to-day management of the business.

Shaw continued: “Along with Andrew Whittle, my friend and business partner, and our fellow board members, we decided we should restructure the board with my focus being on the future strategic direction of the business and planning its next phase of growth, which offers us many opportunities.

“Andrew Whittle will make a fantastic managing director, and I look forward to working alongside him in continuing to build what I think is a great business.”

Whittle said that he and Shaw had built a strong team since they started the company.

“I’m looking forward to the next chapter in our firm’s history and working with my fellow directors and colleagues to help our clients build a built environment of the future,” Whittle said.
