Aecom appoints regional design lead

Global infrastructure services giant Aecom has hired Neil Lewin to lead its northern design practice.

Lewin, who joined in April after leaving a role as IBI Group’s deputy regional director for the UK, will focus on growing the firm’s integrated design service for clients across a wide range of sectors in the region.

Clients that Aecom’s design practice in Manchester is currently working on projects for include Dyson, Manchester Airport Group, Amazon and Homes England, while the team is also working on various town centre and neighbourhood plans. A further project involves work on Government hubs in the North West.

With plans to grow the design practice in Manchester, Lewin will work with Aecom’s other multidisciplinary teams to strengthen the company’s integrated offer in the region.

Lewin previously led IBI’s Manchester office, heading a team that worked on projects including Trafford Waters for Peel Land & Property, the regeneration of Barnsley town centre, and masterplanning South Heywood for Russell Homes. Prior to his time with IBI, he enjoyed lengthy spells with Calderpeel then Taylor Young, joining IBI when the Canadian group took the latter business over in 2012.

His move to Aecom completes the  principals group of the company’s UK & Ireland design practice, which is led by Jennifer Dixon and also includes Dale Sinclair, Trevor Leaker and Erik Behrens.

Dixon, the firm’s architecture lead for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “With major opportunities across the North of England, Neil takes on a critical role as we look to enhance our integrated design offer in the region. He brings both local insight and extensive design experience to our broad range of clients.”
