ACC boosts Liverpool’s economy

Liverpool's Arena & Convention Centre is injecting £3m a week into the city's economy, according to figures released today.

The ACC on Kings Waterfront, has had 300,000 visitors since its opening in January this year. Figures indicate – based on the volume of business for the venue and number events currently booked – the ACC will pump £160m into Liverpool's economy in its first financial year.

The news has come as a significant boost to those involved with the ACC and the region, considering the effect the credit crunch is having on the global economy.

Added to this, figures showed the retail sector in Liverpool to be performing well, with Marks & Spencer's Church Street store reportedly seeing an upturn in daily business of between 25% and 65% since the opening of Liverpool One in May.

Figures also showed the Metquarter designer shopping centre, located in Whitechapel, enjoyed a 13% rise in sales compared to the same six-month period last year.

Footfall in Liverpool's main retail area in Church Street, based on figures released in June by the central Business Improvement District organisation, grew by 15%.
