£11m grant for Museum of Liverpool
The Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded the Museum of Liverpool scheme £11m of investment to fit out the building, currently under construction at the Pier Head.
The investment is welcome news for the controversial project, which has suffered a number of setbacks.
Danish architects 3XN were dismissed from the scheme last year and replaced by Manchester-based AEW over rows about costs and design control.
In March, a revised planning application was submitted by National Museums Liverpool for permission to change the limestone cladding from Travertine to Jura limestone, as well as alterations to viewing platforms and better ramps to be fitted for disabled visitors.
The new Museum of Liverpool is scheduled to open at the end of 2010 or early in 2011.
