Walton Hospital homes and retail to get go-ahead

The construction of 195 homes and a 19,000 sq ft Aldi foodstore on the site of the former Walton Hospital off Rice Lane in Liverpool is due to get planning consent.

The residential aspect of the scheme will be delivered jointly by Mulbury Homes and the Riverside Group. The homes are made up of a mix of 135 houses, six bungalows and 51 apartments.

Liverpool City Council is expected to approve the development at its planning committee meeting on Tuesday 11 August.

Derwent Lodge Estates is the owner of the 13.5-acre site, which is next to the recently opened Clock View Hospital.

Walton Hospital closed in 2010 and some of the buildings were demolished in 2011. The listed Clock Tower and adjoining wings were retained and converted into apartments.

The planning application was submitted by Eden Building Design, the Harris Partnership, Vector Design Concepts and JLL.
