MIPIM 2016: Let’s show how cities can shape policy, says Bernstein

Sir Howard Bernstein, chief executive of Manchester City Council, announced 26 partners as part of the city’s delegation for next year’s MIPIM in Cannes, alongside two new daily sessions on the Manchester stand at a launch event yesterday evening.

Addressing around 200 guests at the launch reception at Innside hotel on Thursday evening, Bernstein stressed that the global property convention was “a unique opportunity to promote ourselves.”

“MIPIM is an opportunity for regional businesses to promote their priorities”, he said. “But it is also a chance to show how cities can be at the vanguard of new policy and placemaking.”

Early sign-ups include Addleshaw Goddard, Manchester Airport, Bilfinger GVA, Bruntwood, and Colliers.

While in previous years the Manchester at MIPIM timetable has centred around stand events at mid-morning and mid-afternoon each day, in 2016 Manchester will introduce two new sessions.

Partners will have the opportunity to submit ideas for an event taking place each day at between 4.30pm and 6pm, while a series of design workshops and panels will be co-hosted with the Royal Institute of British Architects on the stand each morning at 11.30am.

“We want to continue to reinvent the Manchester MIPIM prospectus and positioning, to ensure that we are thought leaders in marketing and communications,” Bernstein said.

Last year’s Manchester at MIPIM partnership was the largest ever, with 75 organisations attending as part of the delegation.

According to Bernstein, Marketing Manchester has also secured 30 partners for the MIPIM UK conference set to take place in London next month.
