Knowsley sets out vision for Prescot town centre
Knowsley Council has commissioned consultancy Peter Brett Associates to draw up a masterplan and supplementary planning document for Prescot’s historic town centre.
The documents are part of the process to define appropriate development and redevelopment around Prescot for the next 15 years.
According to the council, the development of a masterplan will help identify the most effective way forward for Prescot and compliment the heritage-led regeneration that is already underway as part of the Prescot Townscape Heritage Initiative.
The draft masterplan will be subject to a six week statutory consultation period to be undertaken summer 2015.
Peter Brett Associates has already worked with key stakeholders to develop a set of strategic objectives for the town centre plan, which are as follows:
“By 2030, Prescot town centre will be a thriving place that is an attractive destination for local residents and visitors.
“It will offer a distinctive mix of uses including new cultural and leisure facilities, a consolidated and reinvigorated retail offer, and excellent local services, supported by new residential development that will enable more people to live in the heart of the town.
“The regenerated town centre will be easy to access and provide a high quality environment that showcases Prescot’s heritage and creates a strong sense of place.”
Good to see that Knowsley Council is looking to get to grips with the significant untapped asset it should have in Prescot. The town is of real historic interest and is thought to have been visited by Shakespeare when he stayed at nearby Knowsley Hall with the Earl of Derby. Not a very good picture Place North West! You could have picked a beter shot, of the beautiful historic church or some of the old Georgian buildings.
