Hotel planned for Doddington Hall

Cheshire East Council is expected to approve the restoration and conversion of the grade-one listed Doddington Hall near Nantwich into a 120-bedroom five star country house hotel.

The application from the owner of the hall, Lady Rona Delves-Broughton, outlines plans to convert the hall and its grade two-listed stables to include accommodation, restaurant, bars and function rooms, and a new-building extension to house bedrooms and a spa leisure facility.

Lady Rona Delves-Broughton’s company Doddington Hall Conference Centre would be the hotel operator.

Doddington Hall sits within 800-acres of parkland, and was designed by Samuel Wyatt and built in 1780. The mansion is private, and was used as a ladies college until 1985.

The planning application to Cheshire East Council also includes the refurbishment and conversion of the 13th-Century Delves Castle and grade two-listed Star Barn near to the Hall, with the use of the buildings to be defined at a later date.

The application site includes 200-acres of parkland as according to a report to the council “the applicant considers that it is important that rather than simply isolating the buildings in some sort of cocoon manner they all site within an important landscape setting”.

The council will discuss the development at its strategic planning meeting on Wednesday 1 July.

J10 Planning advised on the scheme. Assael is the architect.

Following the approval of the plans, the applicant will work with the council and wider community to identify funding needs and how a shortfall could be met.
