Exhibition Centre Liverpool opens doors for first event

The £66m exhibition centre extension at ACC Liverpool is officially open today, doubling capacity to 160,000 sq ft of flexible exhibition space across the waterfront site.

The 87,000 sq ft building designed by Denton Corker Marshall is the latest addition to ACC Liverpool, home to the BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena. The venue will host trade and consumer exhibitions, large national and international conferences, banquets, concerts and global sporting events.

Wound Expo, the first trade event at the exhibition centre will take place today and tomorrow. The first public show is Bliss Wedding Shows’ Liverpool Wedding Show on 12 September.

The development includes the construction of a 200-bedroom Pullman Hotel, which is connected to the arena and exhibition areas.

The hotel is now set to complete in December 2015, four months later than originally planned, with an extension of time claim from contractor ISG currently under dispute with Liverpool City Council.

Bob Prattey, chief executive of The ACC Liverpool Group, said: “This is a hugely significant moment in the development of The ACC Liverpool Group and we are extremely proud to add the new facility to our range of venues.

“For the first time in Liverpool, customers will be able to visit large exhibitions whatever their hobbies and interests. We will attract more national and international visitors to the city who will help to boost the local economy by an additional £20m per year through staying in hotels and visiting leisure and retail attractions.”

Really good to see this open, it seems a long time ago now that we did not even have an arena or conference centre, now we have this extension to the ACC.
Good luck and well done for achieving this great addition.

The Liverpool brand is truly international but it took the city a long time to realise this and to to capitalise on it. They are making up for lost time now, in style. All the best to the team at the Liverpool Exhibition Centre and ACC LIverpool.
