Matthews & Goodman and Edmund Kirby merge

Chartered surveyors and town planners Edmund Kirby and national practice Matthews & Goodman have merged to create a combined firm with offices in Liverpool, Manchester and London.

Both firms have provided property advice to clients for over 140 years and the merger aims to create a firm that benefits from the strengths of each team and provide professional expertise for its combined client base.

Philip Silby, head of agency at Matthews & Goodman, said: "This merger achieves the strategic objective of both firms, to develop capabilities nationally and regionally in the North West. Edmund Kirby are a well-respected organisation with whom we have a good operational and cultural fit. This is a great opportunity for all our clients and our staff as we take the new firm forward."

Geoffrey Smith, a chartered valuation surveyor of Edmund Kirby, added that the combined business would continue the emphasis on the provision of "commercial and independent consultancy advice on property matters, with a focus on hands-on, solution-driven service".

The firm will operate as Matthews & Goodman, incorporating Edmund Kirby.

Matthews & Goodman has 18 staff based in Manchester, eight in Liverpool, and Edmund Kirby has 25 staff in its Liverpool office with two in caretaker roles.

Clients of Edmund Kirby include British Steel Pension Fund, UK Land, Land Securities, and the Grosvenor Estate.

Mathews & Goodman's clients include Weightmans in the North West.
