New bus station opens to passengers
8 Sep 2010, 16:15
Dawnus Construction has completed the £3.7m new bus station in Rhyl for Denbighshire County Council.
The contract consisted of two active construction phases. Phase one improvements required reconfiguration of the main bus terminal, existing car park entrance and taxi rank, improving access to and from the rail and bus station. New lighting columns and information points were installed, the use of new natural stone paving & granite kerbing was used extensively throughout to enhance the project.
The second phase realigned existing carriageways around the site with new paving and kerbing, resurfacing and minor alterations to the existing surface water drainage systems.
Funding for the improvements came from the Welsh Assembly Government, Taith (Traffic Wales) and Denbighshire County Council.
Cllr Sharon Frobisher, cabinet lead member for environment, said: "Our new and improved bus station is a fitting welcome to the town of Rhyl for both bus and rail passengers.
"Before the refurbishment, Rhyl bus station was rundown and sometimes the subject of anti-social behaviour. This new bus station reflects the increasing numbers using the bus service as well as meeting the needs and expectations of elderly and disabled people."
Dawnus Construction is based in Bangor. The project was designed
by BCA Landscape of Liverpool.
