Work underway on Baltic Triangle creative space

Baltic Creative, the non-profit developer established by Liverpool Vision to deliver business space for creative industries, has appointed Nobles Construction to redevelop five sites off Jamaica Street within the Baltic Triangle, Liverpool city centre.

The work, believed to be worth £600,000 to Liverpool-based Nobles Construction in the first instance, has started on the sites being targeted for digital and creative firms.

Baltic Creative, formed last year, received £5.2m from a combination of the North West Development Agency and European Regional Development Fund to acquire property in the Baltic Triangle area to the south of the city centre. The Baltic Creative centre will contain 30,000 sq ft of floorspace in former warehouses and workshops in the historic maritime industrial area. The centre could accommodate 60 firms and is forecast to contribute £1m a year to the Liverpool economy.

Developments such as the Contemporary Urban Centre and Elevator Studio have been established within the Baltic Triangle area in recent years.

This latest development comes just weeks after Pritchard revealed plans to develop the second phase of existing works in another section of Baltic Triangle, behind Wapping.

Peter Linford, director at Nobles Construction, said: "Liverpool is such a vibrant city, alive with all aspects of culture, and it would certainly benefit from the addition of a dedicated creative area.

"We're delighted to be working on such an important scheme, which will bring the area to life and secure future investment for the city."

Jenny Douglas, from Liverpool Vision, added: "This brings the vision of a creative hub at the heart of the city closer. Liverpool's reputation as a business location is going from strength to strength, and this project will create another asset for the city's business reputation, creating new jobs and levering in new investment."
