Former Liverpool Picket venue up for sale

The former Picket live music venue on Hardman Street in Liverpool city centre is available at Sutton Kersh's next auction.

Located at 24 Hardman Street, the Flying Picket Public House is available as part of a 33,500 sq ft site comprising a terrace of Grade II-listed Georgian buildings, previously occupied by the Liverpool School for the Blind, the Merseyside Trade Union Community and Unemployed Resource Centre. The site is Lot 20 of 58 Lots available at the auction.

Sutton Kersh said the buildings are in need of modernisation and could provide a mix of open plan accommodation and private office space.

The auctioneers added that the outdoor area includes a courtyard, which is suitable for car parking. Additional kerbside parking is also available immediately outside as well as a loading circulation space.

The site is suitable for redevelopment subject to necessary planning consents and is available at a guide price of £1.5m-£2m.

James Kersh, from Sutton Kersh, said: "It is rare such a large city redevelopment opportunity comes to the market at auction. A clever mixed-use scheme in this extremely busy area will provide a potentially fantastic return for investors."

The Picket club opened on Hardman Street in 1983 before closing in April 2004 after the venue was sold to developers.

The club opened a new premises in Jamaica Street two years later, which is located near to Contemporary Urban Centre.

The Sutton Kersh auction will be held on Thursday 27 May at the Marriott Hotel in Queen Square, Liverpool city centre.

So sad to see the Picket like this - happy memories! Lets hope someone does something tasteful with it and doesn't rip the heart out of it! Pity someone couldnt do somethin with the Irish Centre too! Two beautiful buildings!…
