Morgan Sindall merges contracting divisions

16 Apr 2010, 10:33

Staff at Morgan Ashurst and Morgan Est were waiting to learn the implications of the merger of the two divisions by parent Morgan Sindall, announced this morning.

The construction business Morgan Ashurst will join with the infrastructure services business Morgan Est to create a new enlarged division under the Morgan Sindall name. The new division will also contain Morgan Professional Services.

Graham Shennan, managing director of Morgan Ashurst, will head up the new division as managing director. Mark Cutler, Morgan Est's managing director, leaves the business this week, Morgan Sindall said in a statement.

Morgan Est has a regional base in Warrington and Morgan Ashurst has offices in Liverpool and Salford Quays. A spokeswoman for the company said it would be business as usual in the North West with all three offices remaining open and there were no job losses planned. The move is a marketing one to create a single brand to end confusion in the market, she added.

Morgan Ashurst employs 55 people in Liverpool, 175 in Manchester. Morgan Professional Services has 69 staff based in Birchwood. Morgan Est employs 59 people in Birchwood.

Morgan Sindall said: "The decision to combine the two divisions comes at a time when the group's construction and infrastructure services businesses are increasingly working together on larger and more complex projects in sectors such as rail, aviation and defence. The new division will sit alongside Morgan Sindall's three other divisions of fit out [Overbury], affordable housing [Lovell] and urban regeneration [Muse Developments] which are supported by the group's specialist investment unit, Morgan Sindall Investments."

No one from Morgan Sindall was immediately available for comment on how the North West offices would be affected.
