Dream wins national Civic Trust Award
19 Mar 2010, 10:21
The landmark Dream sculpture alongside the M62 in St Helens was among the winners at the Civic Trust Awards held in Liverpool last week.
The public artwork designed by Jaume Plensa won a special award for community engagement. The 20-metre high statue of a girl's head with her eyes closed in a dream-like state was commissioned by local ex-miners and St Helens Council as part of Channel 4's Big Art Project, supported by Arts Council England and The Art Fund.
The Dream project team was made up of Arup, Cheetham Hill Construction and Evans Concrete, a specialist pre-cast fabrication firm.
Other Civic Trust Awards winners in the region were Blencow Hall in Eden, Liverpool One masterplan, Midland Hotel in Morecambe, Paradise Street pedestrian bridge in Liverpool, and Pendleton Gateway Centre.
