New images show potential for Oxford Road

Corridor Manchester has released new images to show how the area around Oxford Road, in the south of Manchester city centre, could look in the future.

The regeneration partnership for Oxford Road is supporting Manchester's stand at MIPIM this week.

The images were revealed at the world's largest property convention this morning as part of Jackie Potter's presentation, who is chief executive of Corridor Manchester.

These latest images are of the Cornerhouse junction and area by the former eye hospital in Oxford Road and are aimed at giving "a potential look and feel" of the area.

Corridor Manchester said the images are an upgrade of those released in 2008 and show a bit more detail of how the area could look, which it hopes will attract further new investment for part of Oxford Road.

Following the opportunity being created by GMPTE's £54m cross city bus package, Corridor Manchester said that general traffic is being taken away from the area which is helping create a more pleasant environment.

Corridor Manchester has also secured £5.1m of funding for the first phases of new public realm works.

To be completed this year, new public realm works will be carried out to First Street, improvements will be made to the landscaping and Grosvenor Square at All Saints, Manchester Metropolitan University and outside the Whitworth Buildings at The University of Manchester.

Corridor Manchester partners with the North West Development Agency, which are investing £2.55m and £2.5m has been secured from European Regional Development Fund to finance the work.

Trying to make somewhere look better by sticking in a few trees is so 1970's. There is enough precedent in the UK and Europe to show what a world class city would do....and it isn't this! Is amateur hour not finished yet?…
