Skate park bound for Blackpool promenade
4 Jan 2010, 08:26
ReBlackpool has submitted two planning applications to create a skateboard/BMX park and adventure playground on the seafront.
The larger application for Waterloo Headland features a £4.6m skateboarding park, inline bowl and BMX area designed by skate architect Jeremy Donaldson. The bowl can be adapted for any type of local or national competition.
Waterloo Headland will also be home to a large adventure playground for 8 to 14 year olds, with a smaller section for younger children. The entire scheme is set within 120,000 sq ft, which also acts as a flood defence as part of the sea wall.
A further planning application is proposed for a building to house 'managed play' facilities and a café is also a possibility.
Subject to funding, it's anticipated that works on the final section of the promenade will begin in May 2010 with an estimated completion date of summer 2011.
