Pochin and PJP extend Leverhulme Hotel
1 Jul 2009, 13:54
Upmarket hotel specialist Craig Baker is adding three buildings to his Leverhulme Hotel & Spa in Port Sunlight, Wirral.
The extensions were designed by locally-based architect Paddock Johnson Partnership and the £3m build contract awarded to Pochin Construction, part of Cheshire-based Pochin.
There will be a two-storey extension to the boutique hotel, housing a banqueting and conferencing hall, enabling the hotel to hold wedding receptions and ceremonies.
Separate from the hotel, the second building will be a three-storey 17,222 sq ft leisure facility to house a pool and spa with treatment rooms at the basement level, along with 28 guest bedrooms on the upper two floors.
Finally, the third building, of 6,458 sq ft, will contain a wine cellar, garages and staff accommodation.
Chris Whittaker, contracts manager at Pochin Construction, commented: "Leverhulme Hotel is situated in the heart of the popular tourist attraction of Port Sunlight. However, as it is a conservation area there are a number of limitations to adhere to during the construction stage. For example, there is a height restriction in place on all new builds within Port Sunlight, which is why we have included basements on the stand-alone buildings to achieve the three-storeys of space required.
"We started on site in March 2009 and have already made good progress on the first and third phases. The second phase, the leisure facility, is currently in the final stages of design and once agreed, we will commence work on the final phase with completion scheduled for March 2010."
Baker also owns and runs the Hillbark Hotel, set in 250 acres of parkland at Royden, Wirral.
