Nationwide: Carlisle boasts UK's healthiest housing market
30 Jun 2009, 16:25
Carlisle is the 'hottest' regional town or city in the UK by house price according to Nationwide building society's latest research.
The Cumbrian capital reported a rise in house prices of 1% for June compared to the same month in 2008, to an average of £136,016.
The city was the only UK destination in the research to show an annual rise, beating Sheffield, Sunderland, Southampton and Birmingham in the top five, all of which showed negative price movement.
Elsewhere in the North West, areas are generally seeing the annual price falls shrink as month-on-month rises take effect.
Manchester saw an annual change for quarter two of -10% compared to -18% in quarter one of 2009. Only Lancashire saw a worsening picture, falls widening 2% from -14% last quarter to -16% this quarter.
The table below shows the full breakdown of North West sub-regions from the Nationwide figures.
