EcoPod inventor Keith Rimmer said the deal could open up 'amazing opportunities'

Carillion snaps up Belfry's EcoPod

Warrington-based Belfry Group has signed a collaboration agreement with the energy division of construction giant Carillion to exclusively market and install its EcoPod heating system worldwide.

The system, which was designed and developed by Keith Rimmer, managing director of Belfry, combines solar power and a cascade boiler to reduce energy costs and emissions in a wide range of buildings.

Rimmer said: "This is a major deal for Belfry Group and it has the potential to open up some amazing opportunities. Carillion Energy Services shared our vision for the future of EcoPod and we are excited at the prospect of driving it to the forefront of the renewable energy market."

A new company will be formed, trading under the name EcoPod Heating Systems. The deal sees Brian Kerr, director and shareholder of Belfry Group, retire from the business.

Phil Shepley, director of Carillion Energy Services, said: "EcoPod has already proved to be an outstanding solution for reducing fuel bills - by over 40% in some cases - and carbon emissions. A major benefit is that it allows renewable energy solutions to be introduced into large apartment blocks and, for the fuel poor, EcoPod brings significant reductions in energy costs to those who need it most."

The pod is delivered to site fully commissioned and working ready to be lifted by crane into position. The pre-prepared reinforced steel base ensures good weight distribution and provides a solid foundation. If installation on the roof is not suitable, the system can also be installed within a building.

Ruth Jones, corporate partner at law firm Brabners Chaffe Street, and associate, Simon Lewis, have advised Belfry since 2008. Accountant John Beaumont of Beaumont Associates also advised Belfry Group on the license agreement. Carillion Energy Services were represented by their in-house legal team and Lucy Pringle, Mark Pearce and Andrew Hall from Dickinson Dees, Newcastle.
