Kensington regeneration starts with health centre

Galliford Try has started work on a new £5m health centre in the Kensington district of Liverpool.

The centre, on Edge Lane, is part of wider £350m regeneration plans around the road which is the main entry point to the city from the M62.

Healthcare developer LSHP is behind the scheme on behalf of Liverpool Primary Care.

LSHP's chief executive Graham Pink said: "We are delighted that the building work has begun for this important new health centre, which will provide members of the local community with modern, friendly and easily accessible healthcare services, located close to where they live.

"The new neighbourhood health centre will be a major landmark for Kensington, as it's the first new building to be constructed following the demolition works in the area, and we believe it will be a huge asset to the local community."

Liverpool City Council's cabinet member for regeneration and transport, Cllr Malcolm Kennedy, said: "I'm really pleased that work on this fantastic scheme is now underway.

"The new centre will provide an invaluable resource for local people and is the latest piece in the jigsaw for Kensington's regeneration.

"Improving people's health is an important part of the regeneration of our neighbourhoods, and this centre will give the community better access to first-class health services. It's an important step forward during Liverpool's Decade of Health and Wellbeing."

The building has been designed by Liverpool-based architects Taylor Young.
