Five arrests in Bury planning probe
1 Feb 2012, 10:46
Greater Manchester Police have made five arrests following allegations two councillors at Bury Council accepted bribes in relation to a planning application.
Five men, aged between 45 and 69, were arrested on January 31 at addresses in Greater Manchester and Lancashire on suspicion of causing corruption in a public office.
They have all been bailed until April pending further inquiries.
The police said the arrests, at addresses in Altrincham, Kersal, Didsbury and Bacup, were the result of an intelligence-led operation launched in June 2011.
As part of the operation, officers have also recovered a number of computers and documents from Bury Town Hall and a business premises in Moston.
