Plus Dane pushes on with rural homes despite opposition

Social landlord Plus Dane has completed 13 houses in a Cheshire village aimed at locals who have been priced out of the area.

The Liverpool-based group said it received 54 applications for the properties at Kingsley, near Frodsham, and worked with Cheshire West and Chester Council to determine who had the strongest local roots.

But similar schemes for 13 homes in Holmes Chapel and 13 in Twemlow, near Sandbach, faced opposition from nearby residents and were knocked back at planning.

Plus Dane plans to re-submit the plans in the spring and has just re-submitted plans for 18 houses at Brereton, near Congleton.

Plus Dane's development manager Michael Watson said: "The need for affordable, homes in rural areas of Cheshire is growing all the time and unfortunately high house prices in these areas force the young and first time buyers to move further and further away from their families and places of work.

"Building in rural area can be drain on resources in terms of planning law and the cost of building works in potentially remote locations, but Plus Dane is committed to building affordable, eco-friendly homes in rural areas to ensure that local people can live and work in villages that would otherwise be way out of their price range."

The development in Kingsley was funded by Plus Dane with the help of a £624,000 grant from the Homes and Communities Agency and £149,000 from Cheshire West and Chester Council.
