Media City UK construction
The development of Media City UK also demonstrated how the construction industry could use greener transport.
For the delivery of stone for the construction of Media City UK, Peel Ports, through its barge service along the Manchester Ship Canal, received containers at the Port of Liverpool, transferring them by barge to Irlam, where the containers were de-stuffed and the stone prepared for onward delivery to the site.
The barge service was not only responsible for the transfer of containers, but also moved the prepared pallets of stone directly to site - entirely eliminating the cost and emissions relating to road transport.
By de-stuffing containers and holding stock at Irlam Container Terminal, the project benefited from the need to hold less stock on site and facilitated a rapid response should there be an increased requirement on site.
