Peel Media has worked with public sector partners to deliver public transport initiatives that ensure easy access from across Salford and Greater Manchester to the site.

The most obvious of these developments is the new Metrolink tram extension into the heart of Media City and four additional trams. This new service will mean that trams will now travel to The Quays every six minutes, bringing benefits not only to MediaCityUK and its residents, but to the rest of the existing businesses at The Quays.

The Metrolink extension is part of a wider public transport plan to encourage drivers to leave their cars at home and travel to work in a more sustainable manner.

Funding has just been received for a brand new 'Kickstart' bus route which will link up Salford Crescent station and MediaCityUK. Crucially, this new route will also run through Salford Shopping City, linking up with over 1000 other buses a day from across the city. The new route is due to start in 2011 and work continues to develop further routes to link up bus services across the region. Residents in the Central Salford area can also make use of the Local Link buses which offer a 'door to door' service, including The Quays area.

Cyclists will be catered for with over 300 cycle racks in place around the Media City site. Work is also underway on the Irwell River Park project which will allow cyclists and walkers access along the River Irwell on improved and maintained paths from Manchester city centre to The Quays.

Local residents will also find it easier to walk and cycle to The Quays from Pendleton and Ordsall following improvements to the pedestrian underpass at the M602 roundabout and improvements to Cross Lane, Trafford Road, Broadway, Albion Way and the Quays Loop Road.

Media City was the UK's first BREEAM approved sustainable community. Peel Media's work is supported by Salford City Council, Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company and the North West Development Agency.
