The introduction of the Social Value Act in January 2013 proved a catalyst for local authorities to enshrine social value principles in their procurement and planning policies. Delivering Social Value to communities is becoming increasingly important to procurement strategies.
Designing the scheme, putting up the building on time and delivering to budget is now the easy part! Local authorities and other public clients are seeking to ensure that investments in their neighbourhoods don’t just deliver great new facilities, but the process of constructing them provides local benefits too.
Such requirements have been growing slowly for some years now, but this growth is likely to continue to accelerate. New legislation, changes to benefits, cuts to council budgets – all these things are aligning to drive forward the social value agenda.
This event will look at the impact and importance of social value to the construction industry and also explore benefits to clients, contractors and the communities we work in.
Professor Peter McDermott from The University of Salford has confirmed as a speaker for this event, other exciting speakers to follow: watch this space.
